Conclusion

"As this article highlights, there is growing global action and commitment to address mental health stigma and discrimination.  The global community can do more.  At the presentation of his 2017 report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Pūras called for compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.  Pūras noted that the practice of not integrating the voices of those most affected by mental illness into policy is “a failure to respect, protect and fulfil the right to health.”  And, in case we forget, he reminded us that this failure occurs in countries across the national income spectrum.  The authors of this article support Pūras’ position that the global community needs “bold political commitments, urgent policy responses, and immediate remedial action” on mental health."
